EARTHQUAKES
Earthquakes can happen at any time, on land or at sea, with no warning beforehand, and can have devastating effects on the people and the landscape of the area that it strikes. From causing building collapses that trap people under tons of rubble, to tsunamis that can cause high walls of water to destroy and level areas, earthquakes have shaped the landscape of the planet we live on today. Odds are that you have experienced some kind of earthquake yourself, since they are much more common than people believe, with there being “500,000 detectable earthquakes in the world each year.” (usgs.gov) Out of that number, a fifth can be felt by people and about 100 of them cause damage.
